EQUIVET AUSTRAILA - EQUINE INFO - X-Rays
The practice has a full range of mobile and in-house x-ray equipment allowing us to take diagnostic x-rays both at your place and at the centre. X-rays have to be returned to the Breeding Centre for processing and reading.
The practice is well equipped to carry out x-rays for sale of horses to Macau, Hong Kong and Singapore and general pre-purchase radiographs as well as general diagnostic work.
While we have the facilities and equipment to carry out routine radiography for the repository at yearling sales, we are not actively seeking out this work. It is my belief, at this time, that this is best left to other practices. There are centres we can direct you to for your repository x-rays or we can put you in touch with mobile veterinarians that will perform the x-rays on stud.
It is probable that in the near future, x-rays using digital technology will become more popular. This will allow us to more easily perform the x-rays on stud and process them there immediately. The technology is very expensive (over $100,000) and there are still some developmental problems to be sorted out before we commit ourselves to the new technology. I have experienced the new technology overseas and there are some very exciting developments on the horizon.
