EQUIVET AUSTRAILA - NEWSLETTER - SUMMER 2006

January 2006 & we have survived another breeding season!! Robyn is still slaving away at the Breeding Centre with the artificial breeding but the Thoroughbreds are done for another year & the Standardbreds are winding up their season. Quarter horses, Stockhorses, Warmbloods, Arabs & others will go on for another month or more. It has been a busy season again but with the help of a little "Dr Green? the mares have gone in foal well.

Speaking of pregnancies, yesterday I saw the first of the procressionary caterpillar bags for this year hanging in the trees. We do not know for sure that they cause abortion/resorption but I would not let any pregnant mare of mine go near them. Cut them out of the trees or spray them if possible.

It is with great sadness that we must record the passing of our great friend & employee Laurie Hughes. As most of you will have heard, Laurie finally succumbed to his cancers in November. He will be sadly missed by all at the Breeding Centre .We pass on our sincerest sympathy to Judy & all the family. It has been a sad year as it has also born witness to the loss of Greg Rosebrook's lovely wife Wendy, my best school friend Andrew Joseph & John Keast.

SALE O SALE O
The Magic Millions Yearling sales have been & gone again & most of our clients seem well satisfied with their prices. A listing of the top 10 vendors from Queensland includes 6 of our clients & the top 2 places were Ron & Debbie Gilbert's Highgrove Stud & Steve & Anne Tregea's Windemere Stud. The winner of the Magic Millions race was also won by `Mirror Mirror`, bred by our wonderful friends & clients Ged & Jan Nolan of Rosari, Warwick. Congratulations to all our clients for the superb job done on presenting their yearlings for sale for the sale ring. Belated congratulations also to our clients who sold at the Dalby Stockhorse Sale & the Rockhampton Quarter Horse sale.

EQUINE BREEDING CENTRE
Robyn has done wonders at the E.B.C. and has literally had horses coming out of her ears. Fortunately I managed to forestall any taking over of the garden for stables. We have built more yards and stallion boxes but we already seem to be stretched to the limit again. No doubt part of the reason is the excellent results she has been getting with her Embryo Transfers this year. She has some wonderful mares to work with including last years Warwick Gold Cup & Grandfather Clock winner "Roanies Chex" & "Malle"; sister of the fastest endurance horse in the Australia!!!

Staff Changes
Eric & Alex have moved all their worldly goods out from England so they will be reluctant to go back!! Alex has her Physio registration organised & is now registered to treat you & your horses for your aches & pains! They will go back to the U.K. to work part of their breeding season. Robyn & I may follow them in June. Susanne has put her heart & soul into the breeding season & is taking a well-earned rest in the form of extended leave. We hope that she will return to us at least in time for the next breeding season. She will be replaced in February by Gunilla McPherson whom you may recall helped out while Robyn & I were in the U.K. last season. I would also like to officially welcome Michelle Evans to the team. Michelle keeps very busy with the bacto work along with the autoclaving and general duties in the office. We hope she may be able to help us out permanently. We are also negotiating with David Leck who was with us several years ago & has excellent horse experience.

Accounts
Due to the extremely busy season the office staff have been working overtime trying to have the accounts as accurate and as on time as possible. Please notify them if there are any changes that may need to be made.

That's all folks. All the best for 2006, good luck to all who have horses prepared for the coming sales. May you all have a well earned break before the madness starts all over again.
